ProEight plans to set up shop in Germany by June 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 - ProEight Offshore Engineering Sdn Bhd plans to set up a company in Germany by June next year with the aim of exporting its mechanical seals to the Middle East market.

Its managing director, Ir Azhar Zainal Abidin, said the company will be manufacturing its mechanical seals for the oil and gas industry in Malaysia but the finishings and testing will be done in the German company.

"We chose Germany because most of the products made in Germany are acceptable to most Middle East people," he told Bernama after receiving members of an African delegation to the ProEight factory here today.

Azhar said this year the company exported its mechanical seals to various countries including Sudan, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines.

He said ProEight also planned to export its mechanical seals to Turkmenistan next year. Azhar said the company also planned to become the number one manufacturer in the world for mechanical seals to the oil and gas industry in ten years.

ProEight was awarded the Most Innovative SME 2011 by SME Corporation recently and it was also the winner of Petronas' Most Promising Vendor this year.

Meanwhile, Azhar urged local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to carry out research and development (R&D) to bring innovation to their products.

"When we innovate we are a step ahead," he said, adding that most SMEs were reluctant to carry out R&D as they were not aware of the value.

On the visit by the African delegation, Azhar said it was an opportunity for ProEight to expose its innovation, strategies and technologies to other countries.

"This is an eye opener for them to learn about our latest technologies and innovation. They can know that we also have the technology other than Japan and Korea. Malaysia can be a role model for them," he said.

ProEight, a leading Malaysian mechanical seals and post-installation support provider of flow solution products and services in Asia Pacific, has grown as a leader in the industry under the Petronas Vendor Development Program. -BERNAMA
